Why plant stash?


We are all so busy in our modern lives that we have stopped taking care of ourselves.

Our lifestyles have become toxic on so many levels. We don’t sleep enough, we don’t eat properly, we are chronically stressed and sedentary. We use chemicals on our skin, in our houses, and in our food. It isn’t any wonder that our bodies are increasingly struggling to manage and chronic health issues are on the rise.

Plant Stash exists to tackle a key issue: to make whole food home cooking easy for busy folks, creating the time and boundless energy to live your best life.

Why did I start Plant Stash?

I haven’t always been interested in diet or health. I spent my early adulthood treating my body with what could only be described as complete disregard. During university I worked in a nightclub 3 nights a week, backing up from a late night drinking to drag my sorry butt to class with a coffee in hand. After graduation, I entered management consulting and proceeded to spend more time in airports and hotels than in my own house. I had firmly cemented myself in the work hard play hard culture and for the most part I was loving it.

Fast forward to my early 30s. On a simple screening MRI I received a completely unexpected result… >30 brain lesions characteristic of an auto-immune disease known as Multiple Sclerosis. Sorry, what?!

Going down the auto-immune disease research rabbit-hole looking for a cure always ends up in the same place – “lifestyle change”. Auto-immune diseases involve your body being so inflamed that your immune system gets confused and starts attacking a part of your body that it shouldn’t. In my case it’s my brain on the receiving end, for others it may be their thyroid, their joints, their nervous system… the list goes on.

As a person with an auto-immune disease, I am just the canary in the coal mine. We’re all pushing ourselves too far.

Unsurprisingly, fear of life in a wheelchair is a great motivator. I set about turning my lifestyle around using what I had learned:

  1. Stress reduction: Meditate every morning for 10 minutes.

  2. Movement: Exercise for at least 30 minutes every day, even if it’s just walking, even if the only time you can find to do it is on your lunch break.

  3. Diet: Whole-foods, mostly plant-based, organic wherever possible, low saturated fat.

  4. Toxic load: Switch to natural cosmetics, laundry and home cleaning products.

  5. Sleep: Turn off technology well before bedtime and target 7-8 hours every single night.

The one that I struggled with the most was diet. How on earth was I supposed to find the time to cook healthy plant-based meals for myself when I also had to meditate, exercise and go to bed at 10:30pm every night? I found meal delivery services were expensive, give you limited choice and quickly got repetitive. I couldn’t find many truly healthy choices on-the-go. And I just couldn’t get behind the Sunday meal-prep institution that would have me eating the same meal 5 days in a row.

Through a process of trial and error, I found that certain meal-prep items could be used in a multitude of ways that stopped my workweek from getting boring. They were building blocks for me, my freezer starting to operate like the capsule wardrobe of food. The concept of having a freezer stash of plant-based foods completely changed the game.

Plant Stash is my way of bringing these building blocks to you, in the hope that it helps you to live a healthier life in the same way that it has helped me. The benefits of looking after yourself go beyond healing yourself from an auto-immune disease… it gives you the energy, clarity and resilience to crush every day and genuinely love your life.
