Why have boring plain rice when you can have a MISO RICE PARTY.

What is a rice party you ask? It’s a combination of all of the best kinds of rice - brown, red, black, and wild. No white in sight. All whole grains, each with a slightly different nutrional profile and color that points to their different phytonutrients. They say variety is the spice of life, and this miso rice party will spice up yours.

We’ve added a small amount of miso to ensure that your rice party is as flavor-packed and deliciously appetizing as any good party should be. Studies have shown that while miso is high in salt, the anti-carcinogenic and anti-hypertensive effects of fermented soy counteract the effects of salt, so net-net you’re in the clear. The recipe

  • 1 cup brown rice

  • 1 cup wild rice

  • 1 cup red rice

  • 1 cup black rice

  • 6 cups water

  • 1/3 cup miso paste

  • Box of sandwich bags

  • 1 large freezer bag

  1. You will need to cook the rice in three separate pots to prevent the colors from leaching (trust us, if you don’t the whole lot will end up an unappetising brown blob). Black and wild can go together, the red and the brown need to each be cooked in their own pots.

  2. To one pot, add the brown rice, 1 tbs of miso paste and 1 1/2 cups of water. To another pot add the red rice, 1 tbs of miso paste and 1 1/2 cups of water. To the third pot, add the black rice and wild rice, 2 tbs of miso paste, along with 3 cups of water. Boil all three pots until the rices are cooked (cooking times may vary between them)

  3. Drain the rice separately, and allow to cool

  4. Once completely cool and drained of water, mix the rices together until well combined. If they’re not completely cool and dry, the rice colors will leach again and you’ll be back to the brown blob. It’s a tricky game.

  5. Get out a box of sandwich bags. Spoon 1/2 cup of the rice mix into each sandwich bag until you’ve used up all of your mix.

  6. Put all of the sandwich bags into the big freezer bag, and label it with “miso rice party” and the date. Store it in the freezer for up to 3 months and use as needed.
